Building a Powerful Multiracial Parent Community
We will host a cohort for parents and caregivers from a school or district. This 6-8-session series will explore the challenges and opportunities that come with being part of a multiracial, multiclass school district. Participants will begin to gain tools and strategies for creating powerful and equitable parent organizations. Before the start of the series, we will facilitate a 90-minute listening session with parents and caregivers in order for us to gain understanding and context for parent/caregiver experiences with race, equity, and diversity, in the district and in their schools. Training sessions will focus on relationship building, a brief history of race and racism, recognizing and addressing microaggressions, and tools for better & equitable communications, outreach, and facilitation, as well as practice in navigating difference and conflict. This service includes large and small group work and time to explore the lived experience of different racial groups in schools and beyond. Sessions are interactive and include time for learning, reflection, and sharing.
